www.adventures.is We take our course east from Reykjavík along the tabletop mountains and down to Lake Thingvallavatn. Here we stop to visit the National Park Thingvellir where you will see for your self one of only two tectonic rift valleys in the worlds, created as the continental plates slowly drift. Þingvellir is also the only UNESCO’s cultural world-heritage site in Iceland. From there we take the trail behind the picturesque shield volcano Skjaldbreid and along our second biggest glacier, the Langjökull. After about a two hours drive on mountain trails and some river crossing we get back to normal roads again just above Gullfoss waterfall. We will make a short stop and view the spectacular 32 meter high cascade before driving to the Geysir hot springs which are only 10 km down the road. At Geysir we will see a variety of geothermal pools and erupting hot springs, surely one of the highlights of any visit to Iceland. Drumbo river rafting basecamp is our stop for lunch and a great rafting trip on the glacier river Hvítá is the culmination of our adventure. The Hvítá is a beautiful river running through an amazing canyon, with fun rapids and a great optional cliff jump. Afterwards the showers and sauna are at hand before entering the road again. This trip offers an amazing ride through the landscapes and natural forces that have shaped and continue to shape Iceland. Video Rating: 0 / 5

Iceland – Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is one of natures wonders where huge icebergs float around on their epic journey to the ocean. It had been raining a lot so the ice was very blue because the rainwater fills up the cracks in the ice and make the blue color more visible than ever. In the passed few years the lagoon has become the deepest lake in Iceland at 284 meters but the former deepest and now second deepest lake in Iceland is Askja which is approximately 217 meters deep. The lagoon is getting deeper every day since Breidamerkurjokull glacier which is part of Vatnajokull glacier is continuously melting faster and faster. The lakes surface was measured more than 22 sq. km. in 2009.

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Reykjavík, Iceland by TravelPod blogger Wareameye titled “Reykjavik City Tour”. TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Wareameye’s travel blog entry: “Tuesday, August 5, 2008 Reykjavik City Tour Dear Readers: The rest of the group arrives on time this morning, with no luggage hassles, and make it to the hotel by 8am for breakfast before our city tour. We have a woman guide who was born and raised here in Reykjavik, and takes us to the most interesting parts of the city. One of our first stops is close to the hotel. It is the home/studio of one of Iceland’s most famous sculptors, Asmundur Sveinsson, who lived from 1893 – 1982. An unusual structure, it is surrounded by many of his works which were inspired by Iceland’s fantastic sagas and folklore. Down by the waterfront, we grab a group photo by the Viking ship sculpture several of us visited at sunset last night. Another stop is at the house where Presidents Reagan and Gorbachev met in 1986. That meeting is regarded by historians as the beginning of the end of the Cold War. The iconic symbol of Reykjavik, the Lutheran Church with the tall spire, is undergoing renovation, but we go to the top for good views over the city. Even better views are available from the “Pearl,” which is a domed restaurant sitting on top of the city’s huge tanks of water heated by geothermal activity. Our brief orientation tour also includes visits to the harbor to see the whaling ships which …
We headed off at 9:00 AM and the weather was superb, the sun was coming up and no clouds visible. After visiting Thingvellir national park and the Geysir geothermal area we headed to Langjokull glacier where the snowmobiles waited purring in the crisp white snow reflected the sunlight. This video clip was shot on the way back down from Langjokull and you can see the Gullfoss area straight ahead right below the snowline. When we got back to Gullfoss we had the classic lamb meat soup at Gullfoss Café which was delicious as usual and then headed back to Reykjavik with a short stop at Kerid crater lake in Grimsnes.
